Thomson Reuters has announced the launch of its new innovation and data lab, located in Cape Town, South Africa.
The lab will engage with the region’s “vibrant innovation ecosystem and dynamic start-up community to fuel growth and empower success,” Reuters said.
Thomson Reuters currently has labs in Boston, Waterloo in Canada, London and Zurich.
The labs were built to grow innovation and partnership in different regions.
Mona Vernon, vice president of Thomson Reuters Labs, explained through growing the labs networks, “we continue to connect Thomson Reuters data sets and professional expertise with innovation communities around the globe.”
Chief executive officer of the Cape Town innovation and technology initiative, Ian Merrington, added that combining Thomson Reuters’ industry expertise with its incubation initiatives will encourage innovation in business and technology throughout Africa.
The lab was officially launched at the Africa Summit 2016 last week.
