The Shanghai Futures Exchange has launched a new market surveillance platform powered by NASDAQ’s surveillance tool, SMARTS.
The system processes large volumes of market data in real-time for the exchange and detects any anomalies.
It also allows analysts to aggregate and analyse the data for investigative purposes.
Head of exchange and regulator surveillance and market technology at NASDAQ, Tony Sio, explained the tool “builds advanced models of the overall market as well as each participant's behaviour.”
“Collaborating closely with Shanghai Futures Exchange, we have been able to incorporate the unique characteristics of a Chinese exchange into the solution,” Sio added.
Regional manager of North Asia and Japan at NASDAQ, Ulf Carlsson, said as the Chinese exchange increases its footprint globally, it needs market monitoring capabilities.
NASDAQ’s SMARTS surveillance tool has been deployed on 45 exchanges and 13 regulators globally, with more than 120 market participants using it to monitor markets.
