Goldman Sachs hires ex-EC boss as chairman

Former president of the European Commission to sit on Goldman’s board of directors and act as advisor.

Goldman Sachs has appointed former president of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, as a non-executive chairman and advisor.

Barroso served as president of the European Commission for a decade, before being replaced by the current president Jean-Claude Juncker in November 2014.

In 2002, Barroso served as Portugal’s prime minister for two years, having first been elected to parliament in 1985.

Goldman Sachs said Barroso’s “perspective, judgment and counsel will add great value to our GSI board of directors, Goldman Sachs, our shareholders and our people.”
