BNP Paribas promotes EMEA equity derivatives hedge fund sales head to global role

Walid Maaouni joined BNP Paribas in 2009 and has previously worked at Citi, Barclays and Goldman Sachs.

BNP Paribas has promoted its current European equity derivatives hedge fund sales head to lead its global sales for the division with immediate effect.

The French investment bank confirmed that Walid Maaouni, who previously headed up equity derivatives hedge fund sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), is now responsible for clients, products and digital transformation within the business.

In the role, Maaouni will work closely with the bank’s senior regional sales heads, including Nathalie Texier, head of equity derivatives sales for the Americas, Jean-Eric Pacini, head of equity derivatives institutional sales for EMEA and Kyoya Okazawa, head of global markets Asia Pacific institutional sales.

“In addition to extensive client relationships, Walid brings strong technical and macro expertise to the team. We look forward to working together in further strengthening our equity derivatives platform with hedge fund clients globally,” Emmanuel Dray, head of equity derivatives institutional sales and UK head of equity derivatives at BNP Paribas, commented.

Maaouni has 15 years of experience in capital markets, having previously worked at major institutions with a particular focus on equity derivatives hedge fund sales. He began his career as an equity derivatives hedge fund sales analyst at Citigroup, before becoming an associate at Barclays Investment Bank.

He then spent two years as an executive director of equity and cross-asset derivatives hedge fund sales at Goldman Sachs. As a senior sales figure at Goldman Sachs, he was in charge of promoting and trading flow, exotics and hybrid products with hedge funds. In 2009, Maaouni joined the equity derivatives hedge funds sales team at BNP Paribas.
